Teddy Bears Birthday

Today is the Teddy Bear's birthday. We learned a lot about the teddy bear while doing fun activities. Do you remember why it's called a Teddy Bear? Which book that I read did you enjoy more? Tell me what you enjoyed about our Teddy Bear Day.

Guided Reading and Literacy Centers

Every morning from 10:00 to 11:00 our class has guided reading. All students participate in small groups with instruction given at each group's level of ability. Mrs. Philman, is the CSR teacher who comes into our room for reading. While students are in reading groups, other students are busy with literacy centers- spelling, writing, poetry, phonics, listening, silent reading, sentence building, pocket chart activities, and computer.

Reading List for Leveled Readers

Parents,

There is a website- http://www.booksource.com/ that you can refer to, to obtain a reading list for leveled books. I will be happy to let you know what your child's reading level is at this time so you choose appropriate reading material for him/her. It is helpful for the student to read a level below his/her instructional level to insure fluency, expression, and comprehension. The reading level I will share with you is the independent reading level of your child.

Silly Bandz Ban and Recess

The principal has announced that the popular Silly Bandz are not allowed to be worn by students during school time. Unfortunately they have become a distraction to our learning environment. Please remind your child of this new school rule.

We have also been told that students should not bring any balls from home to play with at recess. We have access to playground balls provided by PTG. We do not want any student to have their ball lost or misplaced.

When your child is dressing in the morning, please remind them to wear appropriate shoes.
Flip Flops and open sandals are not considered appropriate for school. It is hard for the children to run and play if their feet are not sufficiently covered.

"Oh the places you'll go!"

Meet my First Grade Class for 2010-2011. I can tell just after 4 days that we are all "going places." I really enjoyed my first week and I'm looking forward to watching my new friends blossom into great readers, writers, and mathematicians.

What is your favorite thing about learning?

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year. I know we will have a fabulous year. There are so many exciting things we will learn and do. I can't wait for the first day of school.
Did you have a fun summer? I sure did. I visited my daughter in Texas. I'm so excited that she lives in the United States because she use to live in England. Did you take any vacations this summer? Where did you go? What did you do?
